Reaper Ghost king

Oh my, it's been a long time since my last post...
Anyways I haven't done much these last few months, except maybe this:

I've painted up my first Reaper Bones model!
It's not one of my best works, but it still provided me with some valuable insights:

First of all, I base-coated the model using a matte black spray, which is apperently something you shouldn't do when it comes to Reaper bones range. Unfortunately, it was already too late when I discovered that particular piece of information. The applied coat of spray can paint never seems to dry properly and it leaves a somewhat glossy coat of paint on your miniature.
The company's tutorial recommends applying paint straight onto the model.
I'll keep that in mind for the next time.

Secondly, because of the nature of the material, washes behave differently when applied to the miniature. They seem to pool a bit more than they do on regular hard plastic, but it's not a major issue. Just something too keep in mind so you can adjust your painting technique accordingly.

And the last thing I'd like to say is that this model was fun to paint and if you're trying to assemble a low budget army or just in need of some D&D models, I'd say that it's more than good for its price.

Another Night Goblin Big Boss!

This boss was made from a Heroquest orc body and various bits:

Oops, shoulder needs some fixing

Old Heroquest orcs usually don't cost that much on eBay, especially if you find damaged or badly painted models on auctions. Damaged and incomplete models shouldn't be a problem, since you only need their torsos for this kind of conversion.
This way you can get a bunch of customised Night goblin characters for a very low price. All you need some imagination and a few spare bits.

Night Goblin Big Boss!

Painted Night goblin big Boss from the good old Battle for Skull Pass starter set:

You just gotta love those pet squigs!

Chaos Spawn

Painted OOP metal chaos spawn.
One of my favorite models in general.
It feels very chaotic, twisted and warped, much more than the newer plastic sets. I might do something about those claws and nails, though. I'm not liking the way they look at this moment.

Painting an Empire!

Empire was my first army when I decided to start the hobby, but due to my lack of painting skills back then, I decided to leave it mostly unpainted until my painting skills improved. Recently I've decided to paint my Empire army in basic colours just to kill some time and relax a bit. I went a step further with my captains though, just to test the Talabecland colour scheme.

So, the first guy is an ordinary GW Empire Captain.
I loved the style of this miniature so much that I had to buy as soon as it was released.

I got this second guy as a surprise when I was buying a bunch of used random miniatures. He was in a pretty bad shape, so I decided to fix him.

The model only had a body with an outrider cape and a part of an arm which held a completely broken and bent mace from the original box.
I've fixed most of the damage with greenstuff (although I missed some details on one of the tassels) and covered some problematic areas using Empire handgunner bits.
I've used a chaos warrior weapon arm to fix the mace.
The head comes from Empire archers sprue, but I've taken the liberty of adding a skull and an dagger from High elf spearmen sprue to it in order to make it stand out more.
The right arm was made form bits of Empire militia and Cannon crew sprue.

Batch painting Nurgle warriors

My Nurgle warriors are finally showing some signs of real progress:

I'm using Avatars of War Corrupters of the Apocalypse as my Chaos warriors.
You may also notice quite a few GW bits thrown in the mix.
The Corrupters are a bit smaller than the usual GW Chaos warriors, but at least I got 24 of them along with two metal special characters for the price of one Chaos warrior box.

Chaos Lord on Palanquin of Nurgle

I've started painting my converted Nurgle palanquin lord:

I'm using GW Maggoth lords for most of my character conversions, since they seem to be almost ogre-sized when compared to regular chaos warriors. I've used Orghotts Daemonspew upper body for this conversion in particular. I've given him a Nurgle blightking torso plate (which I had to widen a bit to accommodate its bulkiness) and a pair of legs from Stormcast (Sigmarine) Lord Relictor. I've also added a besagew from a chaos warrior body to one of the pauldrons, to accentuate its size.

The lower part palanquin was built out of two full bases of nurglings and filled using some spare nurglings from the plaguebearer sprue. The pile of nurglings is supporting a platform made out of three Empire round lion shields (with lions removed) and three chaos vehicle spikes connected with plasticard. It is hard to notice from these angles, but the platform itself has a shape of a Nurgle icon.
The upper part was built out of plasticard for the most part, with some additions like chaos vehicle spikes, plaguebearer and chaos knight icons and a bell from zombie sprue.

I was also planning to add a hanging carcass on the sideopposite to the bell, but that may prove to be too much clutter for this model to handle.

Khazrak One-Eye

My latest painting project was this speed-painted Khazrak One-Eye:

I'm quite happy with the way he turned out, especially considering how little time it took to paint this guy. He needs a better base, though. Something more fitting for a hero. Perhaps a slab of rock with some branches under it and scattered skeletal remains?

However, I can't say that I like the model itself that much.
You can see that it's Khazrak, but it simply doesn't have that "lordly" feeling to it.
Maybe it's because of the slouching pose of the model and a weird looking head.
I'd like this model more bulkier, his head crowned with a pair of a bit bigger and more detailed horns and a pose worthy of a hero. I imagine him roaring and leaping off a rock, in the style of a Bloodthirster. Or simply standing up more straight like on this beautiful piece of artwork:

Nurgle BSB (WIP)

Hello people,

I'd like to start the hobby section with a small Chaos painting update.
Here's my Nurgle (Pestilence) BSB, which I assembled yesterday:

It's still work in progress, as I'm waiting for a few new washes and technical paints.
I'm very excited about Nihilakh oxide and Thyphus corrosion technical paints.

Comments and criticism are always welcome.

Cheers!
